AI SEO Freelancer for Small and Growing Businesses

These days, people turn to Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity for recommendations before even visiting a website. As an independent AI SEO freelancer, I help small businesses, startups, local service providers, and online stores make their websites easier to find, understand, and trust.

My approach is practical: I create pages that answer real customer questions, ensure search engines can crawl your site easily, and keep your business details consistent everywhere. I can't promise rankings or spots in AI-generated answers—no one truly can. What I can do is fix what's holding your site back and show you how we'll track progress.

What Is AI SEO?

AI SEO is traditional search engine optimisation (SEO) with added focus on how AI-powered search tools find, summarise, and cite information. It builds on the basics rather than replacing them.

Traditional SEO helps search engines crawl, index, and rank your pages. AI SEO keeps that foundation and adds another question: When an AI tool answers a customer's question, can it find accurate information about your business and understand what you offer?

Google's own guidance is a useful reality check. It says you don't need special optimisation to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and that existing SEO fundamentals still apply. To appear as a supporting link, a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet. Google also says you do not need special schema.org markup.(Google Search Central: AI features and your website)

Two newer terms come up often:

  • Generative engine optimisation (GEO) is work aimed at how generative AI tools, such as chatbots and AI search, describe and recommend businesses.
  • Answer engine optimisation (AEO) is writing and structuring content to answer a question directly, whether in an AI answer, a featured snippet, or a voice assistant.

Both are new terms, and much of the work overlaps with solid SEO practices. If a tactic is unproven, I'll let you know and won't claim it will boost your rankings.

AI SEO Services for Growing Businesses

Every project starts with an audit, and I recommend only what your site actually needs. The exact scope depends on your website, platform, and goals. Visibility and Content Optimisation.

Many pages talk about a service but don't answer the questions customers have before buying. I review your main pages, list the questions they miss, and rewrite openings, headings, and sections so answers come first. For more detailed work, check my on-page SEO services.

Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO)

AI tools might describe your business incorrectly or miss it entirely. I test major AI tools with customer-style questions, record what they say about you and which sources they use, and trace any errors back to pages or profiles you can update. Since answers change by tool, location, and day, I treat these results as samples, not rankings.

Answer Engine Optimisation

Visitors and AI tools look for direct answers but often find too much text. I put a clear, accurate answer at the top of each section, then add details, examples, and tables or lists if helpful. I write FAQs for real readers. Since Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in May 2026, I treat FAQ markup as optional, not a shortcut.

Entity and Topical Authority

An entity is something clearly identifiable, like your business, a service, a location, or a person. If your name, services, and locations are described differently on different pages, search systems have to guess. I make these details consistent, connect related pages with internal links, and fill topic gaps so your site covers each subject thoroughly. Mentions of your business on other reputable sites also help, which is where my off-page SEO work comes in.

Technical SEO Foundations for Discoverability

If search engines can't crawl, index, or quickly load a page, it won't be found, no matter how good it is. I check crawlability, indexability, sitemaps, canonical tags, internal links, mobile usability, and Core Web Vitals. I review your robots.txt file for search and AI crawlers, and only add structured data when it matches real page content. If a fix needs a developer, I provide a clear brief. You can find more details on my technical SEO services page.

Local SEO

Local customers and AI assistants both need accurate details like services, service areas, hours, phone, and address. I make sure these details match across your site, your Google Business Profile, and major directories. I also plan location or service-area pages that provide useful information about each place. I use AI tools to speed up research and analysis, but I always review the results myself. You can find the full local program on my local SEO services page.

Content Quality, Accuracy and Consistency

Outdated prices, conflicting descriptions, and filler text damage trust with people and confuse search engines. I fact-check key pages with you, update old claims, and add details only you can provide, like service areas, process, pricing factors, and credentials. Google warns that using AI to mass-produce pages without adding value may break its spam policy, so I focus on accuracy and originality, not quantity. (Google's guidance on generative AI content)

AI Search Performance Monitoring

Without measurement, you cannot tell what is working. I track Search Console impressions, clicks and queries (Google includes AI Overviews and AI Mode traffic in the overall Web totals), GA4 sessions from AI tools where they pass referral data, and a fixed set of customer-style questions that I re-check on a schedule. I report what changed, what did not, and what to do next. Reporting frequency depends on the agreed scope.

How to Choose the Right AI SEO Freelancer

Use these checks on any provider, including me.

  • They explain the work: They can say what they will do, in what order, and what you will receive. Ask for a sample audit outline or report.
  • They make realistic promises: Walk away from anyone who guarantees rankings, AI citations or traffic. Google says no special optimisation is needed to appear in its AI features, so no one controls inclusion.
  • They understand the technical side: They can explain crawling, indexing, canonical tags and structured data in plain language, and they know when a fix needs a developer.
  • Their own content is good: Look for accurate, specific pages that name their sources. Ask how they use AI tools and how they review the output.
  • Their reporting is readable: Ask what they measure, how often they report, and whether you keep access to your own data.
  • Their experience is relevant and checkable: Ask for examples from businesses like yours and what the work actually changed. Percentages with no client, time period or method are a warning sign.
  • The scope is clear: You should know what is included, what costs extra and how to end the arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions About AI SEO

An AI SEO freelancer improves how well search engines and AI-powered search tools can find, understand and present your business. That usually means auditing your site, fixing technical barriers, improving content so it answers customer questions, keeping business details consistent and tracking progress. The exact tasks depend on your site and the scope we agree.

AI SEO builds on traditional SEO and does not replace it. Traditional SEO helps pages get crawled, indexed and ranked. AI SEO adds attention to how AI tools summarise and cite information, including whether they describe your business accurately.

GEO focuses on how generative AI tools describe and recommend your business across many sources. AEO focuses on writing content that answers a specific question directly. They overlap, and both depend on accurate, well-structured content. Both are emerging labels, so I treat specific tactics as experiments to measure, not guaranteed methods.

Yes, when it is focused. A small business usually gains most from fixing the pages that produce inquiries, making business details consistent and answering common customer questions clearly. Those steps help in traditional search and AI search. A large program of new content rarely makes sense at that size.

There is no fixed timeline. Some technical fixes can show up in Search Console within weeks, while changes in rankings and traffic usually take longer, often a few months. Competition, your site's condition and how search systems process the changes all play a part.

I can help with the fundamentals Google describes: pages that are indexed, eligible to show with a snippet, easy to reach through internal links and genuinely helpful. No one can guarantee that a page will be cited in an AI Overview.

Not by itself. Google says AI can help with research and structure, but using it to generate many pages that add no value for users may violate its spam policy. Accuracy, originality and real expertise matter more than how a draft was produced.

I use several imperfect measures together: Search Console impressions, clicks and queries; GA4 sessions from AI tools where referral data exists; a fixed set of customer-style questions that I run on a schedule and record, noting whether your business is mentioned, cited and described correctly; and inquiries or sales. AI answers vary, so these are samples to watch over time, not rankings.

It depends on the size of your site, the number of pages in scope, your competition, and whether you want recommendations, hands-on implementation or both. Send me your website and goals, and I will recommend a scope and give you a quote.

Tell Me About Your Website

Send me your website address, what you sell, where you work, and what you want more of, such as calls, bookings or orders. I will review what you share, tell you whether AI SEO is the right next step (sometimes fixing basic technical or on-page problems comes first), and recommend a scope you can accept or decline.
